Kano, Nigeria – Across Nigeria, security remains one of the most pressing challenges of daily life. From petty theft in homes and shops to larger community safety concerns, the demand for affordable and reliable security solutions is growing. Now, through a pioneering skills acquisition program by AHAHKAZ Health and Empowerment Initiative in collaboration with Engausa Tech Hub, youths in Kano are being equipped with one of the most relevant skills of this era CCTV installation.
The five-week training program, launched on August 16, 2025, at Engausa Tech Hub, is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in installing and maintaining closed-circuit television systems. More than just wires and cameras, the course equips young people to become active contributors to community safety.
For individual trainees, the impact is twofold. First, it provides an immediate pathway to employment or entrepreneurship. With minimal startup capital, graduates can establish small businesses offering installation services to homes, schools, shops, and religious centers. Second, it positions them in a fast-growing sector where demand continues to outpace supply.
At the community level, the benefits are even greater. Affordable, locally available CCTV services can deter petty crimes, aid investigations, and restore confidence in neighborhoods. Parents will feel safer knowing schools are under surveillance. Shop owners will be reassured their businesses are protected. Communities plagued by theft can finally have a cost-effective deterrent.
One facilitator emphasized during the orientation: “By training our youths in CCTV installation, we are not only giving them a livelihood—we are strengthening the security architecture of our communities from the ground up.”
Over time, as more trained technicians emerge, competition will drive down costs, making security solutions more accessible to ordinary families. Beyond crime prevention, CCTV installations also support broader development goals. Hospitals, markets, and public spaces can function more efficiently and safely with surveillance systems in place.
For Kano, where security and unemployment are deeply intertwined, this training kills two birds with one stone. It creates a cadre of employable youths while simultaneously improving safety for families and businesses.
